Lubbock Elite Sod & Turf provides professional tall fescue sod in Lubbock, TX for residential and commercial properties across the South Plains. Tall fescue sod solves the two problems Bermuda cannot on the South Plains: it holds a stand in real shade, and it stays green through a Lubbock winter while every warm-season lawn on the street is straw-brown. For a north-facing yard, a courtyard under mature trees, or a homeowner who simply refuses to accept five months of dormancy, it is the practical answer. The cost is summer water and we will not soften that. Fescue is a cool-season grass being asked to survive July and August at 3,200 feet in a semi-arid climate, and it will want noticeably more irrigation than Bermuda or buffalo grass to do it. If the lowest possible water bill is the goal, fescue is the wrong grass and we will tell you so before you buy it. If a usable green lawn twelve months a year is worth the running cost, nothing else here delivers it. We install turf-type tall fescue and, where we can source it, rhizomatous tall fescue, sold as RTF. Standard tall fescue is a bunch grass, meaning it does not spread — damage does not fill in on its own, it stays as a bare spot until plugged or overseeded. RTF has limited rhizome activity so it self-repairs to a degree, which is worth the premium on a lawn that gets used by children or dogs. Both are sold as blends of several improved cultivars rather than one variety, deliberately, so that disease and heat tolerance are spread across the stand. Management is different from everything else we install. Fescue gets mowed high — three to four inches, taller through summer — because leaf area shades the crown and the crown has to survive August. Feeding happens in autumn and spring, not mid-summer, since pushing nitrogen into a heat-stressed cool-season grass invites brown patch. Watering is deeper and less frequent once established, always in the early hours, and always with nozzles that resist wind drift. Placement decides how well it works. Fescue on the north or east side of a house, under afternoon shade, will use far less water and look considerably better than the same sod baking on an exposed south-facing front yard. We often propose a mixed plan: fescue where the shade is, cold-hardy Bermuda out front where the sun is, and buffalo grass or planted beds on ground nobody uses. Installation follows our standard sequence including the caliche probe and soil correction, because fescue roots deeper than Bermuda and needs somewhere to put them.

Materials, equipment and how we do tall fescue sod
The difference between tall fescue sod that lasts and tall fescue sod that gets redone in three years is almost always preparation and materials, not the finish you see on day one. We work with Latitude 36 Bermuda, NorthBridge Bermuda, TifTuf Bermuda, Tifway 419 Bermuda, spec them to the job instead of to the invoice, and write the material grades into the free estimate so you know exactly what you are buying.
Every Lubbock job runs the same way: site walk and measurements, written scope and fixed price, protection of the surrounding area, then the work itself with a daily clean-up. 15+ years of sod installation work in the South Plains means we have already met whatever your property is going to throw at us — awkward access, older construction, an HOA with opinions.
